Still Think This Social Media Stuff Is Just a Fad?

“Some people can’t handle how much content there is out there. Others are scared to open up because of what people might say about their products and services. Then there are those who simply think all of this Social Media stuff is just a fad.”   - Mitch Joel 12/1/09

For those of you who know me or have spent any amount of time talking with me about advertising, marketing, business etc., you know how big of a social media advocate I am. Because I work on the client services side of the agency business I’m always trying to suggest ways my clients can or should use social media in order to better reach their target audience and ultimately achieve their business goals.

Unfortunately, social media is still foreign enough to a lot of clients, especially more conservative ones, that it’s often times hard to convince them to invest any amount of their marketing budget in social media. Hell, it’s hard for a young account person such as myself who understands social media and knows the value it can bring to a brand, to convince superior, more traditional minded account people that social media is becoming just as important in any marketing strategy as traditional channels.

Luckily for me and a lot of other people out there who are struggling to sell social media to their co-workers and/or clients, there are people like Erik Qualman, author of Socialnomics, who are creating awesome video presentations that can help make the argument for why a client should, no wait, why a client NEEDS to invest a portion of their time and money in social media.

Titled Social Media Revolution 2, this awesome video presentation by Qualman is actually a refreshed version based on the original he produced last year that drew around 2 million views on YouTube. This newest version has been updated to include the latest stats, figures and information on everything social and is a great resource for anyone trying to sell social media to their boss, co-worker or client. So, check it out, let me know what you think and pass it along to anyone who you think might find it helpful or who still thinks all this social media “stuff ” is just a fad.
