Yesterday YouTube turned 5 years old and to celebrate they created a video marking their history up to now! The video takes you back to the very first days of the platform all the way to the present day, highlighting along the way the first super viral video in Ronaldinho’s Touch Of Gold from Nike and the Sale to Google in 2006. The video is pretty cool and visually captures the progress the company has made in such a short period of time.
Also, if you want to take a trip down YouTube memory lane you’ll want to check out the cool five year timeline they’ve put together that allows you to view the most popular videos from every month of every year since they launched. How cool is that?!
Lastly, if you’re a stats geek like me you’ll want to look at the new infographic put together by Website Monitoring, commemorating YouTube’s special B-day. The detailed infographic takes you through the key events of the last five years, lists some staggering key figures and stats, not to mention some great demographic data! Like I said, I’m a stats geek but even if you’re not you should still check it out because it’s pretty amazing how fast YouTube has captured the attention of not just the U.S., but of the World.
It will be very interesting to see where YouTube is in another 5 years and how the platform continues to evolve. I’m just as interested though to see how advertisers and brands continue to use the channel to empower their audience and help create engaging and more intimate relationships.
What do think? What will YouTube look like in another 5 years? Do you think it will still be the huge media giant it is today? I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas so feel free to leave me a comment.
